A Relaxing Afternoon Fly Fishing and Floating the Clark Fork River in Western Montana

A Relaxing Afternoon Fly Fishing and Floating the Clark Fork River in Western Montana

A couple of weeks ago Kevin and Kelsey spent the afternoon fly fishing and floating the Clark Fork River with a friend of ours, Roger. Here's some photos from the outing:

Floating the Clark Fork River

Spending time on the river is a favorite Montana past time and a great way to cool off in the summer. They only caught a few fish on this outing but they had such a great time that they didn't mind.

Montana Bull Riding Video from the Mineral County Fair & Rodeo Bull-a-Rama - Superior MT

The Mineral County Fair and Rodeo is the First Weekend in August every year, and this year was no exception. The Mineral County Lion's Club sponsored a Bull-a-Rama event on Thursday night of the fair this year.

How Bull Riding Is Scored from the Professional Bull Riders Association (PBR):  "A qualified ride is 8 seconds. The clock starts when the bull's shoulder or flank breaks the plane of the gate. It ends when the rider's hand comes out of the rope, the rider touches the ground, or the rider's free arm touches the bull (a "slap"). A successful ride will earn a score of 0-100 points. Scores of 90 points or above are considered outstanding.

A rider only receives a score if he lasts the required 8 seconds. Judges look for control - the ability of the rider to successfully counter the moves of the bull.

The bull always receives a score, even if the rider is bucked off. His score is based on his degree of difficulty. Judges look for drop in the front end, kick in the back, spin, and direction changes (as contrasted with spin, this means changes to movement forward or backward, or left to right)."

Blackfoot River Float Trips at McNamara's Landing & Blackfoot River Rentals - Just 20 Minutes from Missoula, Montana

Blackfoot River near Missoula MontanaBlackfoot River Float Trips at McNamara's Landing & Blackfoot River Rentals

We spent yesterday afternoon on inner tubes floating down the Blackfoot River near Johnsrud Park, approximately 16 miles Northeast of Missoula MT.

The Blackfoot River is the river that was made famous by the movie made from Norman McLeans's novel about fly fishing called A River Runs Through It. From the book and movie:

"On the Big Blackfoot River above the mouth of Belmont Creek the banks are fringed by large Ponderosa pines. In the Blackfoot River Rentals Near Missoulaslanting sun of late afternoon the shadows of great branches reached from across the river, and the trees took the river in their arms. The shadows continued up the bank, until they included us.

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters."

We rented our inner tubes from Blackfoot River Rentals which is located at McNamara's Landing off Highway 200.

Blackfoot River Rentals provides inner tube rentals and a free shuttle service that takes you six miles up the river. They also rent a variety of sizes of rafts, life jackets, and river equipment for reasonable rates.

It was a beautiful day to be on the river and we had a lot of fun. This section of the Blackfoot has a few Class 2 and Class 3 rapids however which were challenging for us as beginners. We got through them however, and made it back to McNamara's Landing about two and a half hours later.

McNamara's Landing also has cabins for rent and a lodge-style restaurant which had live music from a local band. Their menu has everything from burgers and sandwiches to steaks, seafood and prime rib. After a long day on the river, it's a great place to relax and enjoy some great food and drinks.

McNamara's Landing is located at:

878 Highway 200 East
Bonner, MT 59823

Missoula Montana - An Ideal Place for a Second Home or Vacation Home

Missoula Montana - Second HomesMissoula MT is an ideal place for a second home or vacation home as evidenced by a new article in USA today where they are quoted as saying:

"Home to the University of Montana, and surrounded by mountains, trails, skiing, renowned trout streams and whitewater, Missoula is often described as "cerebral meets outdoorsy."

The downtown is dominated by the university and the city's two highly regarded hospitals, full of bistros, brewpubs and espresso bars. But most second-home owners come for the ample outdoor activities, the privacy of vast ranches or the growing number of luxury golf communities."

In Missoula, we have the benefit of enjoying the beautiful mountains, rivers, and streams that surround the city, but also enjoy a wide range of cultural and educational events - thus cerebral meets outdoorsy is a good description of the Missoula Lifestyle.

It's possible in the Missoula area to find affordable homes in golf communities, on the river, or on a ranch.

Read about just some of the reasons people enjoy Missoula as a first or Second Home:

Kayak in Downtown Missoula

Missoula Farmer's Markets and People's Markets

Missoula's First Friday Art Walk and First Friday Locations

An Evening Stroll on Missoula's Riverfront Trail

University of Montana - The Most Beautiful Campus in America

Missoula - Montana's Cultural Superstar

Missoula Montana Homes for Sale in Target Range / Orchard Homes Area Real Estate

Sunflower on the Trail for the Target Range Equestrian Park

Homes in the the Target Range / Orchard Homes

Neighborhood are very popular due to the larger lot sizes, the country feel to the neighborhood and the great location!

Target Range / Orchard Homes properties have that small-town-feel but are only minutes away from North Reserve Street businesses, downtown Missoula culture, and area events.

One of my favorite places in the Target Range area is the Equestrian Park. It's a great place to walk and has some of the best views of the Mountains around Missoula. Having been a former Target Range resident, we spent many hours on the equestrian park trails and have great memories of the Foxes that live there, the blue herons that fly overhead, and our chocolate lab swimming in the canal that runs through the park.

From July 1, 2008 to July 1, 2009, there were 39 sales in Target Range / Orchard Homes with prices ranging from $74,000 to $489,500. The Median Sales Price was $233,500.

In the Target Range / Orchard Homes neighborhoods, there are a wide range of homes - from new construction high-end custom homes to older fixer uppers.

So if you're looking for a small town feel that is close to Missoula culture, shopping and night life, Target Range or Orchard Homes may be for you! For information on buying or selling real estate in this area, feel free to give us Kevin and Monica a call at 406-207-1185, we'd be happy to assist you!
